I recently came across this simple way to clean silver cutlery. I have tried it out and it really does work. You will need:
A Non-metallic Bowl – plastic washing up bowl, or a flat ceramic dish
Bicarbonate of Soda
Simply line the bottom of the bowl with the foil, shiny side down. Now sprinkle a couple of tablespoons of bicarbonate of soda into the bowl and place the silver to be cleaned on the foil. Pour over the boiling water and watch the discolouration leave the silver as if by magic. Once it is clean, fish it out with a pair of tongs, give a good wash in soapy water and the job is done. If you have a lot to do and the process slows down, try replacing the foil.
